Online daily Scrum, short and focused

A daily stand-up that stays within its timebox: everyone knows when to speak, and blockers are visible until someone helps.

What is the daily Scrum?

The daily Scrum is a 15-minute event held every day of the sprint, at the same time and place. Its purpose is to inspect progress toward the sprint goal and to adapt the plan for the next 24 hours.

It is for the people doing the work. It is not a status report to a manager.

Three questions or the sprint goal?

Many teams use the three classic questions: what did I do yesterday, what will I do today, and what is blocking me? The current Scrum Guide no longer prescribes them, and lets the team choose any format that focuses on the sprint goal.

Whatever you pick, keep the conversation on progress, the plan for the day, and obstacles.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a daily Scrum last?

Fifteen minutes at most, whatever the size of the team. The timer per person helps you stay inside that limit.

Who speaks in the daily Scrum?

The people doing the work toward the sprint goal. The Scrum Master makes sure the event happens and stays within its timebox.

What is a blocker?

Anything that prevents someone from moving forward on their work: a missing decision, a dependency, an environment that is down. Raising it early lets the team help.

Is it free?

Yes. Scrum Island is free and you do not need an account.
